When our go-to beer consigliere Ale Sharpton of Cruisin’ for a Brewsin told us he was curating a one-of-a-kind beer feast, we could barely hold in our excitement. If you know Ale, you know he’s super passionate and knowledgeable about all things beer, so we knew off the rip that the idea would be best described in a word he often holds sacred for his favorite brews…gangsta.
What happens when delectable cupcakes and scrumptious cookies combine? Magic. Oh. And a sugar rush like you wouldn’t believe. Two of our favorite purveyors of cupcakes, cookies, and all things sweet have joined forces to create a one-of-a-kind dessert emporium in the heart of Cabbagetown. But they need your help to make it a reality.
You see them all over the place – Virginia Highland, Midtown, Buckhead, Atlantic Station, Woodruff Arts Center. Food trucks are increasingly present, and hopefully even more so in the future. It all seemed to start with the King of Pop’s delicious, gourmet popsicles (and with flavors like chocolate sea salt, pineapple habanero, and tangerine basil, of course they’re popular); but now, food trucks are popping up all over the city and there’s no shortage of variety: Korean style tacos from the Yumbii truck, perfectly cooked fries with numerous toppings from The Fry Guy, Southern-inspired gelato flavors from Honeysuckle Gelato’s truck, every hot dog you can imagine from The Pup Truck, delicious Venezuelan stuffed, griddled corn cakes (called Arepas) from the WOW! Truck, and so much more.
Everyone has been through the pain of a breakup, and we all cope in different ways. I like to cut back on drinking, get plenty of sleep and eat healthy. (And if you believe that, then you don’t know me at all.) Many things can ease a broken heart, but surely we can all agree that booze and sugar help. And personally, when I’m down in the dumps, the last thing I want to do is get behind the wheel. As such, below are my favorite spots in the Poncey-Highland area for healing a broken heart. And by healing, I mean overindulging in food and alcohol.
Nestled in a shopping plaza on Peachtree Road, CamiCakes Cupcakes is Atlanta’s premiere destination for all things cupcake. A bakery specializing in only one particular baked good might seem impractical to the untrained eye; but when you elevate something as simple as a cupcake to the next level, there’s really no need to dabble in anything else.
