When Food and Music Collide

Get your groove on…

Gone are the days (thankfully) when music in restaurants was an afterthought and mundane elevator music was pumped in. The right music can make a great meal even better, just as the wrong music can detract from the juiciest steak. Ever try to stomach Nickelback with a side of sashimi? Not good. Atlanta restaurants are hip to the groove and, as such, are serving up equal portions of killer beats and gourmet treats. Read on to find the best places to keep your head bobbing and your mouth watering…

Sauced Restaurant & Lounge

No matter if it’s a cool Sam Cooke song playing, or a DJ spinning tunes late night, you’ll always find good music on rotation at Sauced…and just as good as the music is the food. For a truly Southern appetizer, try the pork rinds. They come out sizzling hot and delicious. For a main dish, you can’t go wrong with the seared duck breast atop baby turnips and sweet potatoes in warm pecan vinaigrette. And trying one (or two, or three) of the specialty cocktails is a must. They’re each delicious and uniquely Southern. And you absolutely cannot leave without trying the Lemon Ice Box Pie. This place knows how to do comfort food.

The Sound Table

With a slogan like “Sit Down. And Listen,” and the giant green DJ booth that’s front and center, it’s fair to say you’ve been warned. Nestled in the always-interesting Old Fourth Ward, The Sound Table is part bar, part restaurant, and all cool. Plop down at the swankily modern bar downstairs, bob your head to the DJ, and enjoy one of the many Great Gatsby-esque cocktails such as the vodka-laden Moscow Mule. Or head upstairs to the dining room for a bit quieter evening and order from the interesting and something-for-everyone menu.

Carroll Street Cafe

The first Monday of every month, Carroll Street lives up to its bohemian vibe with singer/songwriter night. Watch the locals pour in, groove to the tunes of a local musician, and chow down on the Carroll Street BLT, a sandwich of applewood-smoked bacon, sliced tomato, mixed greens & pesto-goat cheese goodness.

Eddie’s Attic

Nestled right in the heart of Decatur, Eddie’s Attic is a well-known stop for music fans, where any given night of the week you’ll find an array of talented musicians performing. And many times, you’ll find those musicians relaxing on the patio for some pre-show noshing, and the sweet potato fries are a must-nosh. For dessert? Rock ‘n’ Roll meets gourmet with the Jack Daniels Brown Sugar Baked Brie.

Park’s Edge

Piano and brunch more your bag? Then Park’s Edge in sleepy Inman Park is your place. The ultimate brunch spot, Park’s Edge gets mellow on Sunday afternoons with live jazz. Settle in on the cozy patio, and order the Peaches & Cream French Toast — a delightful brioche with peaches, cream cheese, and a brown sugar lavender topping. Relax and enjoy that smooth jazz along with a bottomless mimosa. Note: they also have live music on Friday and Saturday nights, for those of us who aren’t early risers.

Cafe 640

If a jazz brunch is a little too serene for you, then get down to Café 640 for their weekly crawfish boil. On Sunday evenings, you’ll find live music on the patio and a big steaming plate of crawfish, local andouille sausage, corn and potatoes. Order a pitcher of beer on the side, and end your weekend on a decidedly chilled-out note.

The Swallow at the Hollow

Okay, so OTP-ers like good music and food too, and The Swallow at the Hollow has both. Throw on your cowboy boots and head to this off-the-beaten-path hoedown in Roswell for some great barbecue and music. On Friday and Saturday nights from 10:00 PM to midnight, stick around for the show, which can range from a Nashville singer/songwriter to a full country band. Yeehaw!
