National Margarita Day 2011

Feliz Dia de Margarita Nacional

Or as we say here…Happy National Margarita Day!  This lively cocktail can be traced back to the early 1930′s and has been making revelers pucker their lips and squint their eyes ever since.  So what kind of margarita are you? Are you tart or sweet?  Rocks or frozen?  Salt or no salt?  Whatever your concoction of choice is, be sure to celebrate at one of these popular Atlanta locales for margaritas done right.  You’ll be glad you did.

Agave

Topping out our list of places to celebrate National Margarita Day is Agave.  Named appropriately after the Mexican plant in which tequila is derived from, Agave has been serving up the frothy mixture since 2000.  Complete with over 100 different tequilas, Agave holds the title of the most extensive tequila menu in Atlanta.  The freshly squeeze lime juice daily is what gives their margaritas their signature flair. Be sure to sip on our personal fave, The Corzo Perfecto with Corzo Super Premium Reposado, agave nectar & fresh lime.

Tin Lizzy’s

Number two on our list of prime locations to celebrate National Margarita Day is Tin Lizzy’s. The chain located in Buckhead, Midtown, and favorite Grant Park, is our beloved dive bar for great food and all things margarita. Tin Lizzy’s succeeds at offering affordable, tasty, and memorable food and drink combinations to keep you coming back for more. The margarita selection is epic, ranging from the $4 standard margarita to the “Fall Off the House” margarita, our personal favorite in the souvenir Tin Lizzy’s Bucket.

Nuevo Laredo Cantina

Nuevo Laredo Cantina has made a name for itself offering cult Mexican food and drinks for die-hard fans since opening in 1992.  A mainstay on Atlanta Magazine’s “Best of Atlanta” list, the restaurant offers traditional Mexican fare with a winning margarita menu. The restaurant has succeeded with one simple formula: serve the best, fresh, authentic Mexican fare at a reasonable price by an attentive staff in a casual environment. Nuevo Laredo is the perfect place off the beaten path to celebrate Margarita Day. We’re loving the Cadillac Margarita Grande with your choice of premium tequila.

No Mas Cantina

No Mas Cantina is probably one of the hippest restaurants you’ll ever go to. The eclectic decor of fine Mexican-inspired furnishings is only matched by its margarita menu. With flavors ranging from Coconut to Guava, the weather is going to be perfect to relax on the sprawling patio with one of these fine concoctions. We’re a big fan of the No Más! Santos Margarita with 1800 Silver tequila, fresh lime juice, and orange liqueur.

The Original El Taco

The Original El Taco is your friendly neighborhood watering hole located in the Virginia Highlands.  Serving up simple and fresh Mexican food in a cozy atmosphere, the real stars of the show are the extensive margarita choices.  The tequila choices are endless and you’ll be hard pressed in finding a flavor you can’t identify with.  You’ll definitely want to try the Palermo Texas Margarita with Lunazul Reposado, orange liqueur, fresh orange juice, and lime sour.

    What? No Bone Garden?

      Kevin,

Thank you for commenting. Bone Garden is a worthy contender for National Margarita Day, and didn’t miss our eye. Rosa Mexicana was also in contention. We try to keep our round-ups to no more than 5 places, and the above choices simply stood out more.

We love Bone Garden too, and you’ll be seeing a dedicated review in the near future. Thanks again for commenting!

Already making plans to celebrate at Tin Lizzy’s in Grant Park. Can’t wait. Is it 6 p.m. yet?
