4th of July Planner

mmm…let freedom ring!

Smoky barbecue, hot dogs, creamy potato salad, cold beer – we all know that chowing down is the best way to celebrate our independence. And lucky for us, Atlanta has a bevy of ways to do just that. Read on to find out the best places to exercise your pursuit of happiness.

Lenox Square Mall

From 2:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, July 4th, head to Lenox Square Mall for “A Taste of the Fourth.” For $10, you can sample food and beverages from restaurants like Davio’s, Morelli’s, California Pizza Kitchen, The Palm, and Red Brick Brewery. Then, pull up your blanket and enjoy prime seating for the largest fireworks display in the Southeast.

Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q

Some of the best barbecue in the land can be found at Fox Bros. Get some beef brisket or baby back ribs to go, find a shade tree, and get your picnic on. It’s the American way.

D.B.A. Barbecue

So Yuengling may not sound American, but it is — America’s oldest brewery to be exact. Honor that tradition on July 4th at D.B.A. for $1 pints and $4 pitchers of the tasty stuff. And grab some ‘cue while you’re at it. It is Independence Day, after all.

Georgia Aquarium

Celebrate the 4th at the aquarium with the Red, White & Brew festival. For $45, enjoy live music from Yacht Rock Revue, barbecue from Jim ‘N Nicks, and a sampling of delicious beers. The event will take place on the top floor of the aquarium parking deck, which just so happens to have a great view of the fireworks at Centennial Olympic Park. Aren’t those aquarium folks clever?

W Atlanta Buckhead

Oh, you fancy, huh? Well, then get your fancy self to the W Atlanta Buckhead.  For $349, you get a swank hotel room, bottomless mimosas, prime Peachtree Road Race viewing (including a champagne toast at 7 AM), and later that night, a rooftop view of the fireworks. Ah, the glamorous life.

So, you’re having barbecue for lunch, but what’s for breakfast?  Pancakes.  All-you-can-eat pancakes.  Stop by Bakeshop from 8:00 to 12:00 on the 4th, where $10 will get you all the fluffy, syrupy, pancakey goodness your heart desires.

The Sun Dial Restaurant

A great way to beat the heat and still see the fireworks is to spend the 4th at The Sun Dial. Have dinner, a few drinks, then kick back in the famous revolving restaurant and enjoy the display.

P’Cheen is celebrating on July 3rd this year, because, as they say, they’re too “damn patriotic to wait for the 4th.” Why not get damn patriotic with them for their 3rd of July Block Party? Expect the essential (and — since this is P’Cheen — delicious) burgers and hot dogs, along with kid-friendly activities such as face painting and kiddie pools. For the adults, you’ll have beer specials, corn-hole gaming, a hot-dog eating competition, live DJ’s and more. P’Cheen never disappoints in the fun department.
