A food adventure OTP… the first installment
Alright, it’s true. I’ll admit it to the world. I am an ITP snob. I live ITP, I eat ITP, I play ITP. But, I work OTP. Which means *gulp* I sometimes have to venture outside of work, with the iPhone GPS at the ready, to find lunch-worthy food. I didn’t believe it could be possible, I am OTP of course. But much to my chagrin, I owe OTP a huge apology. Turns out, you guys know what’s up. So over the next few weeks, you’ll find a great mix of OTP dining options worthy of the $0.50 toll on 400 (seriously). First up, the Japanese hidden treasure, Bishoku Japanese Restaurant…
One of the restaurant critics from the AJC loves this place. I know this because he tweets pictures from his lunch and I get jealous. Finally, I loaded up the GPS and made my way over to Bishoku to see (and taste) for myself.
On my first visit, I was seated next to a couple from Japan. Both casually catching up with the wait staff, and eating an array of food that just looked too good to be true. I perused the menu, and decided to try the Bishoku bento box ($14.95). All of the lunch specials include miso soup and ginger dressing salad, and I also ordered some green tea which was nice and strong. The Bishoku bento comes with sashimi, shrimp and vegetable tempura, rice, oranges and a Japanese salad topping for the rice. All of which lived up to the hype.
On my second visit I opted for the sashimi combo ($18.95), and let the waitress know I was an adventurous eater, which ensured a nice mix of interesting fish – all mouth watering and left me wanting more.
When your check arrives, so does a dessert treat on the house…Yellow cake with whipped cream topping. When I asked owner Jackie Merkel (daughter of former Sushi Huku owners) what it was, she admitted it was actually a family secret. I was impressed, because I haven’t had such incredibly good yellow cake in a long time (Sorry Publix and Piece of Cake). Jackie also mentioned you could order the entire cake for special occasions (hint my Birthday‘s in January) for around $15.
I haven’t been back for dinner, but its definitely on my list of things to do…they had me at trio of oysters. So if you find yourself looking for lunch (or dinner) OTP, make sure Bishoku is where you’re headed. Coincidentally, I am currently the mayor of Bishoku on foursquare, so I challenge you to steal it away from me!
