Today the center of the libation world revolves around the best thing to come out of Scotland since The Highlander. That was based on a true story ya know. Yes. I’m talking about Scotch whisky. So raise your glass with me in a toast to celebrate National Scotch Day! Kilt optional.

As a former Park Slope, NY resident, I can attest to the fact that Brooklyn is practically perfection. Quaint shops, talented artists, pre-war brownstones and of course, incredible food. So when I moved to Atlanta, I needed to find my fix. A neighborhood that embodied all those things, and reminded me of home. But most importantly, that could replace my food cravings. Once you’ve been to Al Di La, you’ll understand what I mean. So when Chefs Ford Fry and Drew Belline announced the opening of No. 246 in Decatur, my interest was piqued.
Ah, the pickleback, quite possibly my favorite shot of all time. What’s a pickleback, you say? Well, it’s a two-part situation: a shot of whiskey, chased by a shot of pure pickle juice. Yes, you heard me correctly – pickle juice. The pickle brine magically blots out any bite you might get from the alcohol, so all you’re left with is the smooth deliciousness of the whiskey and the saltiness of the pickle juice.
There are two things most every Southerner can appreciate: patio weather and a perfectly mixed cocktail. And while our current 90 degree temps aren’t necessarily the perfect patio weather, what better way to combat this blazing heat than with a cool drink in hand? Head to one of these restaurants and try some of the city’s best Southern-inspired cocktails. One sip and you’ll swear you’re on your grandma’s front porch in a rocking chair.
I think it’s best that we get this out of way first and foremost. Yes. This is a post about a burger joint. Yes. Atlanta already has an overabundance of said burger joints. Yes. The burger trend is saturated with no signs of slowing down. Ok. Now that that’s out of the way, ask us do we care that another burger joint is after our hearts and beloved cholesterol count? Not in the least.
You’ve heard it all before. There are two things that can’t be recreated outside of New York City – Pizza and Bagels. As a native New Yorker, I’d be inclined to agree. Some claim it’s the water that makes all the difference. Some claim it’s just because you’re outside New York City. There are many compelling arguments, clearly. But, what if I were to tell you that you could get a good slice of New York style pizza right here in the A? It’s true, and it was found at the most random place too, Il Bacio Pizzeria &Trattoria.
The inaugural Miller Lite Summer Rooftop Series kicked off last week to provide consumers a unique opportunity to experience the MIllerCoors brand in a new light. Beer and cocktail connoisseurs descended upon The Reserve at Cafe Circa to sip, sample, and savor the unique pairings of MillerCoors products with their favorite spirits and bites.
Whiskey is truly an American liquor. Don’t believe us? Listen to that Don McLean song, “American Pie” (“…Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye, and singin’, this’ll be the day that I die…”) You can’t argue with Don. As such, the perfect drink to celebrate American independence must include whiskey. So, we present to you the “American Sweetheart” cocktail. Shake together one ounce each of bourbon whiskey and Southern Comfort, a dash of dry vermouth, sour mix to taste, and serve it up in a rocks glass. One sip and you’ll be shouting, “Oh! Sweet land of liberty!” Enjoy.
