On what grounds?!
With a career in Food and Beverage management, I have enjoyed coffee, purchased coffee equipment, ground, brewed and served coffee. Behind a bar I have made Espresso, Cappuccino and caffeinated cocktails. However, I received my coffee education from ‘coffee evangelist’ Jason Dominy while attending Coffee 101 at the Batdorf & Bronson Coffee Roastery in Atlanta with Atlanta Culinary Tours.
Class is in session. Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, in the forests of the Kaffa region where it grew wild. Coffee is “Bun” or “Buna” in Ethiopia, so Coffee Bean may have been derived from “Kaffa Bun”. Jason continues to instruct us on the history, geography, farming, botany, picking, drying, roasting , grinding and production equipment.
Now off to the Coffee Lab where Jason spends countless hours evaluating beans, water, temperature, consistency, flavor, aroma and so much more. This is a scientific lab set up for in depth analysis of all things coffee. In addition to the lab equipment, gadgets galore are housed here for manual brewing. Take note that Jason will prescribe the perfect remedy for that ailing cup of coffee at your house. Coffee and equipment are not sold at the roastery. Jason does provide information on how to brew at home just like he does every morning. Now you can brew like the pros in your own kitchen.
I had a great time at Coffee 101 and look forward to sharing some common grounds with Jason again. He is knowledgeable, informative, funny and holds your attention every step of the way. He is active in getting coffee out in the community: teaming up with locals The King of Pops and Cacao for creations like these. Jason is so committed to the world of coffee he supports the people who keep him in the bean business. On August 20th, Atlanta Culinary Tours is hosting a special Coffee 101 with all proceeds benefiting Jason to assist him in going on a trip with Blood: Water Mission. So be sure to support this great cause!
Jason can perk up your group with his trademark Coffee Ambush or bring your crew to Coffee 101 put on by Atlanta Culinary Tours.
