Downtown Restaurant Week is July 21 – 29, 2012.
I know. Unless you’re a tourist, traveling salesman, or work in the Downtown Atlanta area, stopping at one of the many awesome restaurants can be a task in itself. Not knowing where to park and let’s just say the interesting characters you come across on Peachtree Street have been enough to keep me from frequenting the area in search of good eats. But after previewing a few of the many downtown restos last night (amongst a rough and tumble gang of bloggers and media of course), I have a new found intrigue and respect for these sanctuaries amidst the concrete jungle. So when you’re alone and life is making you lonely…you can always go to Downtown Restaurant Week July 21st – 29th.
I was invited out last night to preview the offerings from three participating restaurants for restaurant week (Ray’s in the City, Max Lager’s, and Sway). On a walking tour to each restaurant, I really felt like a tourist in my own city. The multitude of new restaurants and bars that I had been missing out on was shocking, but what better deal can you get than $25 and $35 dollar prix fixe menus for dinner. The menus are specifically crafted for the event, and items may range from those selected from the restaurant’s regular menu or new culinary adventures patrons have yet to try, which spotlight the restaurant’s style and talent. And to alleviate my parking concerns, a car-free initiative will kick off the week on Saturday July 21st. Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) is working in tandem with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition (ABC) to encourage diners to ride their bikes to dinner. There will be complimentary bike valets set up at 191 Peachtree Tower from 7-11pm and those who take advantage will be rewarded with a special incentive to return to downtown restaurants after restaurant week.
Participating restaurants offering $25 menus include: Alma Cocina, Café Circa, Der Biergarten, Glenn’s Kitchen, Georgia Peach, Max Lager’s, McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, No Mas! Cantina, Paschal’s, Ray’s in the City, RED, STATS, Ted’s Montana Grill, Terrace, Thrive, and Truva.
Participating restaurants offering $35 menus include: Atlanta Grill, BLT Steak, Glenn’s Kitchen, Legal Sea Foods, Peasant Bistro, Prime Meridian Restaurant, ROOM, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Sway, Thrive, and Trader Vic’s.
Insider Tip: Reservations are highly recommended for Downtown Restaurant Week. Notable new favorite and a restaurant that has been under my radar is Sway at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. Sway has been open for almost a year and is short for “Southern Way” which echoes its cuisine of Southern-influenced dishes with locally sourced ingredients. You must try the locally sourced Tanglewood Chicken. When I tell you it is THE best chicken I’ve every had, you will believe me. It’s that good. On top of that they have pie bar of rotating sweets daily. I will definitely be back to explore the menu further, for research purposes of course.
