It’s all about corn…seriously.
As part of their summer series, Meehan’s Public House Downtown invited Athens, GA’s Terrapin Brewing Company to host a one-of-a-kind beer dinner.
It seems that beer dinners have become all the rage as of late with more and more restaurants getting in on the fun. Meehan’s Public House however separates itself from the pack in Chef Jordan Wakefield’s approach to featuring a key ingredient in each of the menu courses. The Iron Chef-esque approach adds a unique interest and cohesiveness to the meal that wouldn’t have been accomplished otherwise. Catering to a packed private room, each course of the evening featured Terrapin Seasonal, Monster, and Year-Round beers to complement and enhance the rich and savory flavors of the corn-infused courses. The dinners demonstrate that even craft beers can hold their own with the likes of pre-established wine dinners.
Wild Georgia Quail – White corn & wild mushroom duxelle, sweet corn puree.
(Paired with Hopsecutioner)
Local Corn & Wild Crab Bisque – Blue crab claw on toasted sourdough.
(Paired with Sunray Wheat)
Scottish Salmon, En Papillote – Hen of wood mushrooms, organic yellow squash, & sweet corn salsa.
(Paired with Rye Squared)
Corn Smoked Wild Pheasant – Triple creamed corn with local braised turnip greens, roasted corn, & mollasses BBQ sauce.
(Paired with Gamma Ray)
Local Sweet Corn Panna Cotta – Homemade Georgia corn sorbet, dulce de leche, & micro basil.
(Paired with Hop Karma)
We adored the flavors of the evening and fine craft beers that accompanied it. But the fun doesn’t stop here. Meehan’s Summer Series Part II goes down July 27th featuring Jailhouse Brewing and four-courses centered around none other than Georgia peaches. Be sure to make reservations in advance because this dinner is sure to sell out!
