Bacon strips & bacon strips & bacon strips…
In its 12th year, BaconFest has become an Atlanta institution celebrating all things bacon with proceeds benefiting improv outfit Dad’s Garage. The event is now even larger with more music, more entertainment, and yes, more bacon-y goodness.
As if 1,000 lbs. of bacon wasn’t enough to satisfy your pork craving, DBA Barbecue has gone all in by upping the ante to 1,200 lbs. of divine swine graciously donated from Vortex Bar & Grill. To keep you hydrated throughout the day, cold beer will be on hand courtesy of PBR and the gang at Ale Yeah!. They’re also keeping things classy with a high brow silent auction. Auction items include: a pair of round-trip tickets to anywhere Southwest Airlines flies, a Cancun vacation for 4, and a Yacht Rock “Cruise Pass” that includes 6 pairs of tickets to upcoming shows. Additional silent auction items range from Atlanta Food & Wine Festival passes to Georgia Aquarium tickets.
The Dad’s Garage improv actors have also imagined up some pretty awesome games and entertainment booths designed to ensue instant hilarity. Games include: Hunt an Improviser, the Wheelchair Obstacle Course, Hobo Wine Tasting, Name That Keanu Quote, Real Steel Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots feat. Hugh Jackman, an Insult Booth, a Compliment Booth, Awkward Conversations with Clint, and the Victorian Phone Sex Booth. Yeah. We’re pretty excited about the last one.
Lastly, providing the soothing sounds for your evening of pork imbibing are the following local faves:
LaStrange Fantastic! – An amalgamation of back-alley New Orleans street rock and blues, Lastrange Fantastic’s! ever expanding lineup pulls listeners into its high-energy, carnival-esque stage show and brings them along for the ride.
Factory – Naomi Lavender and Alice Kim are joined by half of the Young Orchids, Michael Kai (guitar) and Tak Takemura (drums), and the talented Mr. Stuart Roane (Zombie Zombie) on bass. Possibly the dreamiest dream pop band in Atlanta.
FreakOut – Psych-rock band FreakOut hit the scene last fall and quickly grabbed the attention of lovers of fog-filled stages and trippy vocal effects. With just enough poppy hooks to keep the crowd dancing, lead singer Matt DeBusschere hypnotizes listeners with his howl and almost diabolic ear-to-ear grin.
Darling Norman – Rock and roll for the people by people who like to rock and roll. Darling Norman is as versatile as they come. The band has shared the stage with Cousin Dan, Shovels & Rope, Ponderosa, and How I Became the Bomb; and performed at equally eclectic music festivals in 2011 – Nophest and Little 5 Fest.
So get your tickets today for the 12th Annual BaconFest and enjoy food, fun, and good times from the rooter to the tooter.
