‘Midnight In Paris’ Comes to Atlanta with Boucherie Dinners at BLT Steak

Meat Week Series Continues April 22-28 with ‘Beef Week’

“What is it with this city? I need to write a letter to the Chamber of Commerce.” – Gil Pender in Midnight in Paris

I first learned of “The Meat Week Boucherie Dinner” series when it launched back in February with ‘Wild Game Week’. It turns out, this was a returning series of four-course dinners featuring whole-animal cookery.  Intrigued, I waited for the launch of ‘Veal Week’ in late March to see what it was all about. Plus, any excuse for me to enjoy BLT’s famed popovers is always a good idea.

Hot Irishman Whiskey

What’s St. Paddy’s Day without a Hot Irishman…

Springtime and warmer weather may be the “Pot O’Gold” many St. Patrick’s Day festival goers and bar-hoppers seek out. You might celebrate at a destination location or gathering with friends at your home. Either way, there is an attainable treasure for you to find inside every bottle of The Irishman Whiskey.

Van Gogh Cool Peach Vodka

Get a jump on peach season…in liquid form.

I don’t know about you, but I really wish this weather would figure out what it wants to do. Is it winter? Is it spring? This level of inconsistency is really throwing a kink into my already pressed drinking regimen. And although I’m one of those people who enjoy drinking seasonally, an occasional break from winter beers and stiff whiskey is sometimes a welcome change.

The “Fancy Pants” Burger at Grindhouse

Oh, you fancy, huh?

How do you stand out among a sea of burger joints? Make your burgers special. Each Tuesday brings something new and delicious to Grindhouse when they add a unique addition to their regular menu. Today’s special? A thick, juicy 1/2 pound burger on a fresh baked bun, cooked to any temp (as rare as you want) topped with aged white cheddar, habanero pimento cheese, sliced cornichons, field greens, and a house-made tarragon mustard, served with fresh cut fries and a chipotle honey mustard dipping sauce, all for 10 bucks. If you’re feeling frisky, add on a boozy milkshake and sit on that badass patio of theirs. It’s a perfect score in our book.

Chicken and the Egg

Modern Southern cuisine comes to roost in Marietta.

We typically don’t venture outside the perimeter on our food excursions. With so much variety and an inordinate amount of new restos opening daily, traveling outside of the Midtown/Downtown “safe zone” can be a daunting task. But every once in awhile a place comes along to make gassing up your car and traveling into unchartered territory more worthwhile. Enter Chicken and the Egg, a new modern take on sustainable Southern cuisine in the heart of Marietta.

I Spirit Vodka

Italian vodka…yes, we’re quite serious…

Imagine that you’ve been invited to a traditional Italian dinner. The spread is wrought with artisanal cheeses, breads, meats, and pastas. Basically you’re dining at the Louis Restaurant from The Godfather, sans the murder and violence. The waiter brings out a tall teardrop-shaped bottle of a brilliantly crystal spirit. In utter disbelief that no wine is being served at the Italian feast, you’re even more shocked to find the crystal spirit adorned in a bed of freshly-picked cherry tomatoes, aromatic basil, and assorted wild berries. The waiter explains that this is the I Spirit Vodka tasting experience, and that your world is about to be forever changed.

Bacardi Oakheart

The groove is in the heart…

As summer comes to a triumphant close, we can only look forward to fall looming right around the corner. The leaves begin their subtle change, cooler weather seeps its way into our hearts, and we trade in the comfort of poolside for the coziness of fireside. So what will you be drinking this fall season when the mercury begins to dip?

The Cup Gourmet Cupcake Cafe

Cupcakes…they aren’t going anywhere. Get over it.

Typically, the first thought on people’s minds when word of a new cupcake establishment breaks is, “Really? Another one?” Yes. The cupcake is a victim of its own popularity and meteoric rise, and with a new cupcakery setting up shop what seems to be daily, it can be easy to say that there are too many of them. But I’ve always been one to appreciate good competition, especially when it comes to sweet treats.

Food Truck Wednesdays in Virginia Highland

Put some umph in your hump day…

You see them all over the place – Virginia Highland, Midtown, Buckhead, Atlantic Station, Woodruff Arts Center. Food trucks are increasingly present, and hopefully even more so in the future. It all seemed to start with the King of Pop’s delicious, gourmet popsicles (and with flavors like chocolate sea salt, pineapple habanero, and tangerine basil, of course they’re popular); but now, food trucks are popping up all over the city and there’s no shortage of variety: Korean style tacos from the Yumbii truck, perfectly cooked fries with numerous toppings from The Fry Guy, Southern-inspired gelato flavors from Honeysuckle Gelato’s truck, every hot dog you can imagine from The Pup Truck, delicious Venezuelan stuffed, griddled corn cakes (called Arepas) from the WOW! Truck, and so much more.

No. 246 An Italian Food Symphony

un’esperienza bella cena…

As a former Park Slope, NY resident, I can attest to the fact that Brooklyn is practically perfection. Quaint shops, talented artists, pre-war brownstones and of course, incredible food. So when I moved to Atlanta, I needed to find my fix. A neighborhood that embodied all those things, and reminded me of home. But most importantly, that could replace my food cravings. Once you’ve been to Al Di La, you’ll understand what I mean. So when Chefs Ford Fry and Drew Belline announced the opening of No. 246 in Decatur, my interest was piqued.
