After thirteen years as one of Atlanta’s most popular Southern inspired restaurants, the owners decided it was time for a facelift. The open house at Food 101 introduced their newly designed restaurant and launch of Barrel Bar. The evening provided a sneak preview of Food 101’s inventive cocktails along with Executive Chef Justin Keith’s bar menu featuring bold flavors of the new South.

I was excited to see one of my favorite Decatur restos get reincarnated and all brand-spankin new at The Brookwood on Peachtree. Not only did they keep alive their famous Fried Chicken Night (now on Wednesdays), but they revamped the menu for lunch and dinner by introducing new Southern-inspired farm-to-table cuisine focusing on local sustainable ingredients and seasonal flavors.
Centered around Howell Mill Road between 10th and 17th street, the WestSide is becoming one of the next best kitschy-cool neighborhoods in Atlanta, which rivals (or happily reminds you of) other well-known industrial haunts a la the Meatpacking District in NYC or Soho in London. A great mix of restaurants, shops and bars make this neighborhood a top contender for where the Atlanta elite are now starting to prefer to “see and be seen” and can only mean that the addition of a Starbucks location is inevitable. From the gorgeous Anthropologie and Star Provisions family to the coveted Sid & Ann Mashburn stores, there is something for everyone in this understated part of town.
